In today’s cyber-technic era where downloading tracks from the Internet and watching videos on Utube are the order of the day it comes as no surprise that the uploading of footage of a naked drummer would catch the imagination and catapult a band into significance.
But, let’s backtrack for a moment (if you will excuse the pun). Robert ‘Fish’ Fishman is a ‘has-been’ when it comes to the musical world and is now seated in a dead-end job seething at the success of his compatriots who rose to fame in the eighties and then kicked him out of the band.
When his nephew approaches him to join the band A.D.D. as the drummer he has his second chance at fame and fortune even though he is 20 years older than the rest of the band members.
‘The Rocker’ is light-hearted entertainment and even features former Beatles drummer Pete Best, whose story parallels with that of Fish. He was the Beatles’ first drummer in 1960 only to be dismissed two years later when the Fab four were on the verge of stardom.
The filmmakers are, however, quick to point out that ‘The Rocker’ is NOT Best’s story but rather a fictional tale about a second chance for a 41-year-old rock drummer who has always dreamed of being a star.
