He was arrested for the murder and sexual assault of 6-year-old Steven Siebert, yet, more than a year later, is still awaiting trial. What is taking so long? Current food labelling legislation in South Africa is fraught with loopholes. Dieticians and nutritionists are concerned that misleading claims and lack of disclosure about what really lurks within boxes or bottles may be seriously affecting the health of consumers. And the problem is exacerbated because, as consumers, we just aren’t savvy enough when it comes to nutritional labelling on food. Carte Blanche investigates.
