As it is in Heaven
Starring: Michael Nqvist, Frida Hallgren, Helen Sjöholm, Lennart and Jähkel
This bitter-sweet movie is an absolute MUST!!!
Have you ever known someone who is so passionate about his / her calling that it totally dominates their lives? Well, this is the case with Daniel Daréus, a renowned conductor who is so impassioned during a performance that his blood
pressure rises and he ultimately succumbs to a heart attack. He virtually has to start life all over again and decides to return to his home town in a remote part of Sweden where he was bullied as a boy.
Unfortunately his fame precedes him and instead of being able to become a recluse he is catapulted into ‘saving’ the town’s choir. The manner in which he inveigles himself into the lives of the community and changes the way in which they look at life makes a lasting impression both to the viewer and the people he helps. Note: This is a tear-jerker take along plenty of tissues!
Sunshine
Starring: Cillian Murphy, Rose Byrne, Chris Evans, Michelle Yeoh, Hiroyuki Sanada
It is no secret that stars do not live forever and that our closest star is the sun. This is the premise upon which ‘Sunshine’ is built. The global community unites to send a mission to the sun to plant a bomb in its centre which will cause an explosion and thereby create a second sun to provide enough heat for the people on earth to survive. ‘Sunshine’ is a taut thriller which is guaranteed to have you sitting on the edge of your seat.
The crew of eight comprises astronauts and scientists who not only have to fight the psychological demons which plague one in a confined space but also the physical dangers which surround them daily. As director – Danny Boyle, says: ‘There is a question about what happens to your mind when you meet the creator of the universe … for some people this is a spiritual or religious idea but for other people it is a purely scientific idea.’ Well worth seeing! - Ailsa Windsor
