M-Net's Carte Blanche, in partnership with Wits' Investigative Journalism Workshop, has conducted a major investigation into the lack of delivery of low cost housing in the Northern Cape and the impact this has on affected communities. The resulting documentary will be broadcast on Sunday, February 18th on M-Net as the leading Carte Blanche story.
The documentary was produced by Kate Barry, a veteran investigative TV journalist and fellow with the Investigative Journalism Workshop (IJW). Kate's research reveals that not only have people's rights to "have access to adequate housing", as guaranteed by the South African Bill of Human Rights, been violated by non-delivery of the promised shelter, but those in charge have also failed to "take reasonable legislative and other measures...to achieve the progressive realisation of this right", as requested by the same Bill.
Watch Carte Blanche this Sunday, 18th February at 19h00 on M-Net.
