By chance the other day I was sitting quietly in my favourite coffee shop and enjoying a quiet and relaxing capuccino when two young men sat down at the next table. I could not help overhearing the conversation and it was soon clear that these were two young attorneys. They were discussing the way people react to lawyers’ letters. It amused them that these letters seemed to frighten the hell out of the recipients. The one had the nerve to say he always threw in a few “heretofore” and “hereafters” just to confuse them further. They went on to discuss how guilty clients could usually be freed on some or other technicality in the law. No wonder we have such a lawless society when the very people we expect to uphold the law make a mockery of it.
How do we put a stop to this? We the public must respond to this type of bullying by demanding they speak plain English! No more gobbledegook! The same holds true for all walks of life. Make them communicate in plain english people! REFUSE to be frightened by nonsense. Take s--t from no-one. Also bear in mind that all blustering bullies are cowards and a bit of courage brings them down every time.
To President Thabo: I say thank you for a good speech but please convert your good words into action! As the CEO of South Africa and the Ruling Party please stop dithering and act against the guilty in management and middle management. Your advisors are leading you astray - your voting base is shrinking rapidly. Do you realise that more South Africans die daily than in Iraq - a war zone? They are the victims of crime, disease and accidents. All out of control as the funds to fight these things disappear into the pockets of your officials corrupted by power mad and greedy business?
