The economy is booming we are to believe! I Thought to myself : but how is this
possible with such a high unemployment rate? So I did a little research....
by questioning 1000 people between the ages of 18 and 50 years who were not
students or recipients of social pensions. The people I interviewed were either
passers by or street vendors, Mostly they lived in medium to lower income
suburbs or townships. They were all South African citizens but I kept their
names, political affiliations and skin colour out of the picture.
The results showed that 54% were unemployed, 29% were under employed as they
were earning less than R1200 per month. These shocking figures mean that 81% of
the population is in fact living below the breadline. All of those interviewed
assured me that conditions were even worse in the rural areas. Another
disturbing fact that emerged was the number of skilled young white men and
women -many with University degrees - were unemployed.
We need to wake and do something about this situation very, very quickly!
I have this awful feeling that we are staring economic disaster in the face.
Power mad greedy politicians and affirmative action are polarizing our nation
and exacerbating an already dangerous scenario.
Our "rosy" economy has feet of clay. It is a bubble about to burst. You cannot
have a booming economy from which more than 50% of the population is excluded.
Goodbye South Africa and Hello Zimbabwe!!!!
