On your left is Dr Hawass who was instrumental in organising the return of his great ancestors His Majesty, Ramses I’s mummy: “I had the privilege to accompany the mummy of Ramses I from the Cairo Museum to the Luxor Museum. I arrived by Airplane with the mummies of Ahmose and Ramses I. The mummy of Ramses I was received with full military Honors, the military march was performed as we took the great king from Karnak to the Luxor Museum where he and Ammose will be shown in the Museum’s permanent exhibit called “Army in the golden age”
Picture and text from Dr Hawass’ website.

If you are like me, Ancient Egypt fascinates you to the extent that you have trolled the Internet in search of more and more information about this time period. There are thousands of sites - literally - devoted to Ancient Egypt with the vast majority being repitition of already well known information with website owners copying and recopying pictures and information. Some are downright bizarre - lending more to a Jerry Springer show than something about such an austere culture!
You cannot go visiting Egypt on the web without of course consulting Dr Zahi Hawass, respected and world renowned Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities in Egypt. His work is tireless and Dr Hawass has to be compended in what he has done for all of us in preserving our past - our very existence! His official website is at http://guardians.net/hawass/ - the Plateau. It is simply a must visit site - all the latest news and information can be found there like Restoration of the Sphinx and of course other breaking news.

But of course, this is - despite its content - an official site an academic site. So trolling around on google if your lucky you will come across the astonishing www.discoveringegypt.com - Mark Millmore’s Ancient Egypt! If you are after concrete information about Ancient Egypt its culture and more than this is the site to go to - because its where Ancient Egypt literally comes alive!More importantly its the place where you can buy the Discovering Ancient Egypt CD-ROM, which is what this article is all about. At the website however, there is plenty to do and see! What makes Mark’s work so outstanding is the time, care and effort that has been undertaken to make facets of Ancient Egypt come alive for all of us.
For example, you can send a Heiroglyphic greeting card by going to this section of the website: http://www.discoveringegypt.co.uk/ecards/. There are games too! You can play the ancient game of Senet at the website too. So do visit Mark’s website.
We visited his website and promptly ordered the Discovering Ancient Egypt CD-ROM. It requires Win98 and above with Internet Explorer and it runs on Macs, although we have not tested it. We opted for the bundle of the Discovering Ancient Egypt CD-ROM and the spectacular Ancient Egyptian

(roughly R350) which is money
well spent! If you have difficulty
ordering contact us at Durbs

The CD’s arrived promptly and
this is when our journey really
began! Its a whole new experience
